Marquis Theatre
If you were to actually try and write a set of books documenting every theatre that ever operated
in the city of New York, all their changes of name, productions and years of service, you would
need a bookshelf designed for a set of encyclopedia to hold them all. This single volume is
amazingly complete with information pertaining to the above venues still in operation.
It is sad we know so little about the grand old Broadway theatres that fell after the Great Depression.
Each of these houses deserves a small volume of its own, perhaps issued by an academic press that
has access to archival materials from that site or people involved in its management.
In the meantime, no performing arts library should be without this fantastic book.
